Barkfest 09' -- Saturday September 19th, 2009

Love at First Sight is having their first annual Barkfest 09'. All proceeds from the event will benefit Love At First Sight. LAFS Rummage Sale!! -- Saturday August 22nd, 2009

Love at First Sight Rummage Sale Aug. 22nd 8am-5pm Place: Town & Country Bank Forsyth, IL Love at First Sight is having a Rummage Sale to help raise money for the spay and neutering of our animals! GOT JUNK? We will be happy to take it! If you are wanting to donate unwanted items for the rummage sale, call Karen at Love at First Sight, (217) 877-5683. You can bring any items to Love at First Sight by JCPenney, or you can have Karen pick up any of your junk for you. Our Rummage Sale will be on August 22nd, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be held at The Town & Country Bank in Forsyth, IL. Hope to see you there!!

Florida Tan -- Saturday May 16th, 2009

Florida Tan is now changing their name to Larry Paul Tanning Spa in memorial to the owner of all Florida Tan Centres, Larry Paul Fleschner. The tanning spa is donated money they make to various local organizations including Love at First Sight. We will be out at Brettwood Village from May 16 to May 23 selling doggie treats, clothing, leashes, collars, puppy and kitten toys and accessories. You can also donate $5 to our shelter at the front desk of Flordia Tan. Larry Paul Fleschner founded Florida Tan in 1984 and was a pioneer in the tanning industry when he started the business 25 years ago. He set standards for cleanliness and customer service in the tanning industry, and his vision was to help others and give back to the community. In 2007, after battling colon cancer, Larry passed away. On his death bed his last thought were of others. He donated Florida Tan to the Larry Paul Foundation which gives money to all different organizations and charities throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Tanning customers have helped the , now, Larry Paul Tanning Spa contribute over $21,500 to local and national charities including Love at First Sight. The Larry Paul Tanning Spa’s Vision: “One life touching another’s. To make a positive difference in the lives of others through charitable contributions in our local communities. We, our Organization, are united in our effort to help those in need. By doing business with us, our guests are able to participate in many good works of charity and kindness. Whether the most trivial task or the biggest opportunity, we all have the chance to impact and touch someone else’s life. Embrace yourself, nurture yourself, and you positive energy will help others. Feel with your heart and let your shine pass on.”

Doggie Days Raffle Winner -- Monday April 6th, 2009

Doggie Days this past weekend was quite the event. Pooches from all different breeds came lining up to get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Their owners had the opportunity to win some awesome prizes here at Love at First Sight. From treats to doggie beds to the big crate prize, these winners are definitley happy. Final project goal - "To become intimately involved with a subject and tell a story that could make a difference" 8-20 images total. I chose 'Love at First Sight" because my mom and I visited there many many times. She loved the place and their philosophies of rescuing puppies and kittens. When her illness got to the point where we really had to start making plans for what was happening... she decided that she wanted any memorials donated in her name to go to LAFS. When my dad and I took the donations up LAFS they were very appreciative! Now, even almost a year after my mom passed away, when dad and I stop in, they recognize us. It really makes me feel good to see the photograph that I took of my mom during a great camping trip to Shawnee National Forest that hangs on the wall. I feel comfort there. I decided to do my project on LAFS because I thought I could include my mom's story a bit as well as donate the prints to LAFS to decorate their walls and maybe even advertise for them a little. Decatur Tech Academy -- Thursday May 1st, 2008

Love At First Sight had the great opportunity to mock interview Decatur Technical Academy Ag Science & Pre-Vet students on May 1st 2008. The students were excited and enthusiastic and are all well on their way to successful futures working with animals in the future. We here at LAFS wish them the best of luck, and thank the Tech Academy for having us back to help out with this fun and important event.

I CAN DO THAT CONFERENCE -- Wednesday April 9th, 2008

LAFS presented at the 7th Annual I CAN DO THAT! 6th Grade Math and Science Fair. Over 1,000 students from area 27 schools participated in the hands-on event. Topics of discussion included: Animal Behavior, Animal Care, Science Studies, and Careers in Animal Science. The information discussed and presented was vital in providing the students with the knowing of how what they are learning today in their classrooms, will someday be used in their world of work.

Holiday Raffle - Update -- Tuesday January 1st, 2008

Thank you to all who donated to our Holiday Raffle to get new cages for our puppies. So many people came out to support this event, and we (and the puppies) couldn't be more thankful! Thank you as well to all the generous businesses who donated fine products and services for the fundraiser... We did meet our goal and new puppy cages are on the way! Stop on in and see what we've all worked so hard for! We certainly couldn't do it without you!

kitten from "santa" -- Thursday December 13th, 2007

Troy Shafer wanted to do something special for his wife Janie for Christmas. Janie loves kittens so Troy purchased a kitten for his wife to give to a loving friend. This is a special gift from Troy to Janie and the family that received the kitten was overjoyed with the new addition to their family. As you can tell by the pictures (see photo gallery), Troy and Janie made two children's dream come true.

Pet Pictures With Santa -- Sunday December 2nd, 2007

Love At First Sight worked with Hickory Point Mall's Santa for the annual "Pet Pictures with Santa". We had staff and volunteers introduce visitors to a few of our adoptable pets and also kicked off our Holiday Raffle for new puppy cages along with this event.

Frosty came out the day after Thanksgiving to kick off our donations and fundraising. The kids were all very excited!

DCS Field Trip to LAFS -- Wednesday November 7th, 2007

On Novemeber 6, 2007, nearly 25 kindergarteners from Decatur Christian made their way through Love at First Sight. It was a fun time, with the kids getting the chance to play with puppies and kittens, as well as feed a few puppies and learn about pet care. *Check the Photo Gallery for a few pics of the festivities!*

Malloween 2007 -- Wednesday October 31st, 2007
